Getting off to the Right Start Most online courses at Xavier begin with a "Start Here" module that you can access before the first day of class. Look for an email from your faculty member welcoming you to the course and letting you know you can access this module. The Start Here page is the best way to get started in your course. It usually has the syllabus, contact information for your professor, and introductory information for the course. It also has quick links to Xavier resources like Canvas or IT support and the library. You might also find an assignment or two, like an introductory discussion, or a syllabus quiz. Below is a sample of what you might see in the Start Here module.
All Xavier students have 24/7 phone support access with Canvas. You should contact Canvas support for general how-to questions, technical questions, or if you experience any problems with Canvas. |
All Xavier students also have 24/7 live chat support access with Canvas. An additional benefit of using the live chat support is that you will receive a transcript of your chat after it concludes. |
The Canvas guides are highly recommended for finding answers to common questions quickly. You can also find tutorials for every Canvas feature here. |
Xavier offers a basic Canvas training course that all students are automatically enrolled in. This course will familiarize you with all of the student features in Canvas. |

About the Learning Environment
This course is made up of a series of modules. You can access the modules by clicking on the module button, in the column on the left side of the screen. You will then see a list of all of the modules in this course, along with the dates for each module. The modules will open, or become available to you, on the date and time listed in the far right of the module title. Modules are made available to you sequentially to create a community of learners among all of the students in the course, and support your interaction with each other as well as the course content. Within each module you will find all of the activities you are responsible for completing, along with due dates, instructions, and links for submitting assignments.
